Visual Excerpts (Arab Apocalypse), 2020, sticks, string, photography
During early COVID-19 quarantine I found solace great amounts of solo time spent in nature. I’ve was exploring the concept of The Void and significance of portals in the woods by slightly manipulating environments. These site-specific installs are fragile and from certain angles are not visible at all, impermanent manifestations of emptiness and longing. They also serve as visual excerpts, as the portals so far have derived their shapes from Etel Adnan’s text ‘The Arab Apocalypse’. They were built and left to rest atop the Missisippi that runs thru Minneapolis.
