DESCRIPTIONS OF EVENTS
Deep Listening + Sonic Meditations – 12/18 7-8pm
a collab with Mary ScottListen to the universe, what does it sound like? Following the studies led by composer Pauline Oliveros, we will explore three modalities of sonic meditation: Listening, Moving, and Dreaming. Be prepared for light and gentle movement, moments of stillness, and play.

Monster Writing + Making – 12/19 7-8pm
a collab with aegor ray

Monsters are a coagulation of collective fears, uncertainties, and beliefs. In this writing workshop, we’ll contend with the complex histories of the grotesque and monstrous in our culture and practice becoming curious about our own specific anxieties. We will build monsters, both to behold and befriend.

Mojo/Talisman Bags – 12/20 7-9pm
a collab with Baki Baki Baki

Known by many names, gris gris , mojo, talismans, these items of protection originate from central + west africa, and are a blend of muslim, catholic, native american and pagan traditions. Join us for a group activity where we will all ‘feed’ and embroider our own mojo bags with specific stones, herbs, and colors meant to invoke specific protections and communication with spirit(s). All supplies will be provided.Nailah Taman is a fiscal year 2024 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Concretions Waiting to Happen
2024
Resin, copper, quartz, variety of minerals, found objects, dropcloth
Site Specific Dimensions
Each of these 4
orgones is representative of an element; earth, fire, air,
water. The connective sand accrues energetic radiation
from its surroundings and works as a circuit connector.
You are invited to step inside the circuit and have your
energy be ionized by the electric polarity of the flower
orgones.

Each flower utilizes piezoelectric compression to create
vibrational fields that transmute, collect, and cleanse
energies around them. Setting combinations of specific
crystals, metals, organic and inorganic materials into
resin amplifies the natural resonant frequencies and
electric polarities within the orgone. The sand, a combination sourced from the Mississippi and the Sahara Desert, functions as a circuit connector.

These orgone portals utilize piezoelectric constriction to create vibrational fields that transmute, collect, and cleanse energies around them. Setting combinations of specific crystals, metals, organic and inorganic materials into resin amplifies the natural resonant frequencies and electric polarities within the orgone. Unseen energies and entities clearly exist and are a rising subject in wellness and safety+security communities, and this device is protective against harmful EMF pollutions and psychic attacks. Our contemporary understanding of time is entirely oriented around quartz, which is a main ingredient in these portals, and aids them in acting as self-ionizing vibrational and energetic ‘medicine’.

khayamiya, 2023, wood, kayma fabric, tablecloth, vinyl, patchwork, drawings, collected objects

Egypt has a rich history of tent making, specifically khayamiya structures, utilized for a variety of gatherings ranging from political events to funerals and weddings. The geometric pattern derives from traditional practices of appliqué, now typically manufactured and easily accessible and replaceable. The stretched fabric on the frames was utilized for my own wedding in August 2023 and carries the loving energy to this piece. This structure can be disassembled into panels and set up wherever it is needed; it does not define a space, but creates a temporary place to be together. The addition of patches, objects, and drawings from my life and ancestry add intention and protective energy to the tent and those who engage with it, and is a return to appliqué storytelling methods.

Taeta’s Tabletent, 2022, Ancestral cloth, cherished blanket, collected objects, epoxy
Embroidered by my Taeta (grandmother) in the 80’s but never finished, the fabric was found dirtied and stained from the many times it was picked up and put down and forgotten. The reworking of this tablecloth; it’s transformation from a blanket of eating to a shelter of curiosity threads together ancestral practices with an innate queerness that I was never able to share with my Taeta.
Similar in many ways, from the lines on our palms to the magick and madness within our bodyminds, I piece together her unfinished meditations with bits of myself; a pink woven coverta that kept me warm and safe in bed for 10 years until the fibers could no longer hold themselves together. Windows with meticulously arranged trash collected by me during a pandemic time of sickness and solitude along with objects found around my house allow for views both inside the tent and outwards. I peer within the shelter to my ancestry for comfort and guidance, and look outwards to the beyond, past inherited fears, illnesses and tribulations, towards my honest and true self.

Etel’s Sigils, 2022, duct tubing, papercrete, acrylic paint

This installation is rooted in the symbolic language present in Etel Adnan’s The Arab Apocalypse. The current circumstances of our reality have me turning to the past and connecting with ancestral un-languages. The artifacts seem otherwordly, but I have hope that in the future we will have gained the knowledge and connections back into our collective consciousness to be able to better grasp these glyphic languages.

Abolitionist Box, Fabric, wood, flowers, thread, 2022

These quilted curtains and rug were created by Nailah + Sam, cousins and abolitionists in MPLS. We created and quilted these tapestries with cross solidarity messages pertaining to issues and injustices in our community. These are issues that strike us as particularly relevant to transformations we hope to create in parks, as well is in every community including our own.The hanging curtains invoke drop banners used in protests, and the rug beneath grounds us in our values and dedication to the earth. Free zines for community resourcing can be found at the side of the gallery.

About CollaboratorSam Wolk is a nonbinary Jewish artist based in Minneapolis, Minnesota (occupied ashinaabe/dakota land). They have done care work their entire life and continue to find new creative avenues to express their desire for a more loving and healing world. @2gr33n
